Fourteen years ago, Southern Oregon had yet to emerge as one of North America's world-class winegrowing regions. With much of the Rogue Valley planted to pears in the late 19th century and with almost no viticulture history, planting grapes in the Rogue Valley was indeed a gamble.
Jack Day, who was the grandson of Reginald Parsons, one of the early pioneer pear farmers in the Rogue Valley, saw the potential of grape growing on the historic Hillcrest Orchard his grandfather had purchased in 1908. Armed with the vision of an artisan farmer and a Harvard MBA business sense, Jack oversaw the construction of the winery and the planting of the original 20 acres on the southwest slopes of Roxy Ann Peak; where the property's shallow, limestone-clay soils and southern solar exposure is ideally suited to producing Merlot as well as Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Petite Verdot and Carmenere. In 2001, the first harvest of grapes at RoxyAnn produced only 150 cases of Claret that promptly sold out in two weeks.
Today, RoxyAnn Winery produces over 10,000 cases of wine annually and includes more than 70 acres of estate vineyards surrounded by the city of Medford, Oregon; with an emphasis on growing Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petite Verdot, Malbec, Syrah, Tempranillo, Petite Sirah, and Viognier; with newer plantings of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris expected to yield fruit in 2012.
From this rich and diverse palette of sustainably farmed estate fruit, RoxyAnn Winery crafts wines showcasing bold, concentrated flavors with a vibrant sense of place. The winery offers four award-winning wines in its core portfolio: RoxyAnn Claret, RoxyAnn Pinot Gris, RoxyAnn Viognier and RoxyAnn Syrah.
Smaller limited-release wines such as RoxyAnn Tempranillo, "Reserve" Claret, "Parsons Reserve", "Sky Hill Red"(a Rhone-style red blend) "Sky Hill White" (a Rhone-style white blend) and an amazing dessert wine called "Night Harvest" Viognier…with the rich flavors of juicy apricots drizzled with honey are mostly available only to tasting room visitors, web site visitors and wine club members.
Our Mission
RoxyAnn Winery is dedicated to producing world-class wines while supporting the Parsons family's commitment to preserving this land for future generations in the Rogue Valley to enjoy. We are committed to honesty, excellence and service, with a respect for our employees, suppliers, customers, and the long-term health of our company and the environment.
Our Values
We strive to honor our agricultural heritage by cultivating the vineyards under sustainable land management practices. We use cover crops and compost to produce a natural cycle of nutrition and organic matter in the vineyard. Our vineyard workers utilize time-tested agricultural techniques that support a living, healthy soil and prevent damage to the ecosystems that surround our vineyards. We take extra care to prevent soil erosion, limit our water use to protect the aquifers we share with neighbors, and respect wildlife habitat.
